  6. A  new  release  of  Art  Department  Professional makes an AmigaWorld Expo
  7. debut.   New  standard  ADPro  features  include  drivers  for  the Impulse
  8. FireCracker  24  and PP&S FrameGrabber; support for MacPaint and Black Belt
  9. System's HAM-E file formats; and new image processing functions.

  13. AmigaWorld  Expo,  New  York,  March  15,  1991  ----- ASDG Incorporated, a
  14. leading developer of advanced color image processing software and hardware,
  15. announced the availability of Version 1.0.3 of its acclaimed Art Department
  16. Professional,  a  professionally  oriented  image processing system for the
  17. Commodore  Amiga.   The new version enhances ASDG's position as being a key
  18. supplier of color image input, processing, and output solutions.

  20. A  driver  for  the  Impulse  FireCracker  24  is  now provided which fully
  21. integrates  that  24 bit display board into the Art Department Professional
  22. user-interface.  Any image which can be loaded into or created within ADPro
  23. can  be  displayed  on  the  FireCracker in any of the device's resolutions
  24. (384,  512,  768  and  1024 pixels wide by 482 pixels high).  ASDG's driver
  25. supports  multiple  FireCrackers in a single Amiga, and supports the double
  26. buffering capabilities that the device offers.  The FireCracker can even be
  27. controlled  from  ARexx,  making  such  applications  as 24 bit slide-shows
  28. possible.

  30. ASDG  has  added  a  driver which gives direct control over the Progressive
  31. Peripherals  &  Software FrameGrabber video digitizer.  The driver lets you
  32. grab  live  video  images  at  the highest resolution that the FrameGrabber
  33. allows  without  ever  having to leave Art Department Professional.  Images
  34. may  be  grabbed  from  the  odd  or  even  field (for a 1/60th of a second
  35. exposure)  or  from a full video frame (for a 1/30th of a second exposure).
  36. Being  fully  integrated  into  Art  Department Professional means that the
  37. FrameGrabber  can  even  be  controlled  from ARexx allowing time-lapse and
  38. other automated applications.

  40. Also added were drivers which allow images stored in the MacPaint and HAM-E
  41. formats  to  be read by Art Department Professional.  This brings to 21 the
  42. number   of   input   and  output  drivers  supplied  with  Art  Department
  43. Professional.

  45. Several  image  processing  functions  were  added  including:   a variable
  46. anti-aliasing  tool, a ``noise reduction'' filter, and a video tiling tool.
  47. With  the  blurring  tool, the user can select the level at which the image
  48. will  be  anti-aliased (or blurred).  This technique can often increase the
  49. apparent resolution of an image by eliminating jagged edges, commonly known
  50. as  ``jaggies''.   The noise reduction filter can remove unwanted ``noise''
  51. (such as what might result from a dusty scanner glass or dirty camera lens)
  52. without  significantly affecting the valuable part of the image.  The video
  53. tiling  tool  is  perfect for creating professional looking backgrounds for
  54. presentation graphics.

  56. Registered  owners  of  prior  Art  Department  Professional  versions will
  57. receive version 1.0.3 automatically at no charge.

  73. Support  for  Epson  color  scanners,  Polaroid digital film recorders, and
  74. Kodak dye sublimation printers add to Art Department Professional's role as
  75. ``Image Processing's Common Ground.''

  79. AmigaWorld  Expo,  New  York,  March  15,  1991  ----- ASDG Incorporated, a
  80. leading developer of advanced color image processing software and hardware,
  81. announced  the  availability  of  several  new  drivers  for Art Department
  82. Professional,  a  professionally  oriented  image processing system.  These
  83. drivers  include  support for the EPSON ES-300C color scanner, the Polaroid
  84. CI-3000  digital  film  recorder,  and  the  Kodak  SV6510  dye sublimation
  85. printer.

  87. The EPSON ES-300C driver ($200) marks the debut of ASDG's second generation
  88. of  scanner  controllers  following  on  its  highly succesful Professional
  89. ScanLab  product.   Unlike  Professional  ScanLab,  which  is a stand-alone
  90. program,  the  ES-300C  driver integrates into Art Department Professional.
  91. This  means you don't have to exit ADPro to use the EPSON scanner.  It also
  92. means  that  all  of  ADPro's  advanced  image  processing  features can be
  93. instantly  brought  to  bear on scanned art.  The EPSON scanner can even be
  94. controlled through ADPro's ARexx interface.

  96. The  ES-300C  is  an  inexpensive ($1999) A4 size (8.5 by 11.5 inches) full
  97. color  flatbed scanner with many advanced features including the ability to
  98. deliver  as  much  as  600 DPI.  ASDG's driver provides a fast high-quality
  99. preview  mode  with  accurately  scaled rulers and fine cropping precision.
  100. Using  this  preview mode it is easy to select a specific area for detailed
  101. scanning in 24 bit-plane color.

  103. Mr.   Rob  Rosborough,  the ES-300C Product Manager, speaking of ASDG's new
  104. driver  said  that  ``EPSON is enthusiastic about the opportunity to expand
  105. into  the  Amiga  market  and  offer  Amiga  users  the superior technology
  106. provided by our scanner.''

  108. Also  announced  was  a  driver ($250) for the Kodak SV6510 dye sublimation
  109. printer.  The printer ($4500) is used extensively in screen printing, gift,
  110. and  novelty  businesses  and  can  create 4 by 5 inch finished prints with
  111. near-photographic  quality.   Any  image  which  can  be created within, or
  112. loaded  into  Art  Department  Professional,  can  be quickly output to the
  113. SV6510 in 24 bit-plane color.

  115. Finally,  ASDG  announced  the  shipment  of  their  driver  ($200) for the
  116. Polaroid  CI-3000  digital  film recorder.  The CI-3000 ($4495) uses 33 bit
  117. recording  precision to produce high quality continuous-tone images on 35mm
  118. slides, transparencies, or on prints up to 4 by 5 inches in size.

  120. Mr.   Joseph  Kowalik,  Polaroid  Corporate  Program Manager, says ``We are
  121. pleased  to  join with ASDG to provide a complete output solution for Amiga
  122. imaging  users.''  CI-3000  support  via  Art  Department  Professional has
  123. already  been  met  with  enthusiasm,  especially  from  non-Amiga  service
  124. bureaus.   According  to  ASDG,  several  non-Amiga  service  bureaus  have
  125. purchased  Art  Department  Professional  equipped  Amigas  for driving the
  126. CI-3000.    They   cite   Art  Department  Professional's  flexible  format
  127. conversion and image processing abilities as making it possible for them to
  128. take  advantage  of  the  Amiga's high performance and low cost while still
  129. servicing a non-Amiga based clientele.
